Wang Bao He
The city’s oldest establishment that specializes in hairy crabs, this 275-year-old restaurant first started as a yellow wine brewery, where the crustacean was just a complementary snack for its alcoholic offerings. Eating hairy crabs while drinking yellow wine has been a standard pairing like oysters and champagne. A large company with its own crab farm and wine distillery, Wang Bao He is till today one of the go-to places for people of all ages. While its crab dishes may appear old-fashioned in terms of presentation, veteran foodies insist that the intense and savory flavor of the crab flesh and roes it offers – a result of decades of experience in preparing the crustacean – has distinguished it from the competition.
